Energy Emergency Declared in California
The whole state of California was roasting in record heat on September 6, so grid operators there declared an energy emergency and issued a warning that rotational power outages were quite likely.
The warning said that it would be possible for some locations to lose electricity for up to two hours at a time.
California was already in a flex alert that lasted until nine o'clock at night and urged residents to use less electricity.
Some commercial and industrial customers also had their power cut off as per utility contracts.
For another day, the state sweltered, with several places seeing temperature records fall.
Tuesday was the first full workday during the current heat wave, which started on Saturday and persisted throughout the Labor Day Holiday, adding to the pressure.
