Billy Packer, a renowned college basketball broadcaster who covered 34 Final Fours for NBC and CBS, passed away at the age of 82.
Packer's son, Mark, confirmed that his father had been hospitalized for several weeks and died from kidney failure.
Packer's broadcasting career spanned from 1975 to 2008
and he received a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Sports Personality, Studio and Sports Analyst in 1993.
He was known for his expertise in college basketball and his passion for the sport.
He played a key role in the growth of college basketball as it gained popularity,
and was a part of the broadcast team for the highest-rated basketball game in history, the 1979 NCAA Championship between Michigan State and Indiana State.
