Why McDonald's hates California

McDonald's US President has spoken out against a California law that would give the state greater say over fast food employees' wages.

As far as the burger chain is concerned, it unjustly targets major businesses.

Erlinger said in a statement posted on McDonald's website that he is in favour of raising the minimum wage for all employees provided that it is done so in a fair and reasonable manner.

If California were to raise fees for one kind of restaurant while exempting another, for example, Erlinger would argue that this would be discriminatory.

McDonald's remarks are unusual in that they constitute a public declaration about pending legislation, which is often done in secret via lobbyists. The heated response is understandable, given that

the well-known burger company is the primary target of the law, which would impact hundreds of fast-food establishments in California
